A New Venture

I've been encouraged by several friends to start a blog to discuss current events, politics and religion. I must confess that I love spirited dialogue with those who agree AND disagree with me on controversial topics. I am of the belief that we can disagree in a respectful way and still walk away friends. I know it's rather optimistic, but I've seen in done many, many times. I'm also an eternal optimist.

I named my blog "The Pontificating Prophetic Prestigiator" with great purpose in mind. Firstly, I love to pontificate. One definition of "pontificate" means "To express opinions or judgments in a dogmatic way". I'm pretty dogmatic about what I believe.

I also have a prophetic view toward life. I like to look at life through the lens of the prophetic; asking God for the deeper meaning of the events happening in the here and now.

And finally, I am a verbal prestigiator. A prestigiator is a juggler. I enjoy juggling words with others. I love a good verbal feud where we balance disagreement with respect and honor for one another. This is NOT easy to juggle. But it's completely possible with hard work and concentration.

So I'm asking you to join me. Come and read the posts and respond with your thoughts, opinions, agreements and disagreements. Let's learn from one another and grow in wisdom and understanding!

  2. I look forward to the blog because I like you and I like your "take" on things. I love the title, but I would have used Prestidigitator - more syllables, makes your mouth dance to say it right. ;-)

  4. The word "Pontificating" is the verb which means to, "speak or write pompously" which comes from the derivative noun, "Pontiff" which means, the pope, the bishop, a chief priest. This word derives it meaning from the word, "Pontoon" which means a supporting bridge over river. Now that you have confessed that you like the play on words and meaning and am compeled to ask if you are suggesting that you are the, "Chief Pope that speaks pompously, that bridges the supernatural and the natural? This name was very popular to first century christian martyrs. It was the title assumed by the Roman Emperors, Pontifax. Which has deity status or simply gods. These martyrs refused to submit to any other god except the One True Living God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and for that they paid with their lives. So in your attempt to sound sophisticated and smart, be warned , that you do not convey the wrong idea because there are those like our martyr brothers that will not bow down to that false prophet and image too.

  5. Leon,

As you can read above, I chose the definition that best fit what I felt explained my heart, "To express opinions or judgments in a dogmatic way". I don't propose to be anyone's Pope, although I LOVE the bridge analogy. I've been involved in online dialogue between people of extreme polarized views. The bridge described us coming together to agree to disagree on subjects, but to work together for common good.

Also, a ministry I ran in Michigan had the subtitle "Bridging the Gap between the Church and the Sexually Broken". So I really like the bridge analogy.

Also, I plan on being a martyr for Christ one day. It is not my desire to have anyone "bow down to me", I just like the rhythmic sound of the title!

Bless you Leon, and welcome to the blog!

  6. Well, I've been checking back to see if there's any new info on this site and well.....nada.....so, I'd like to throw something out there and see if you bite....
What is your theory of the nephilim? Are they an evil mixed race? Are they men of renown? If so what does that mean? They were actually good? If the word says that they were here after the flood, how did they get here? Did God only destroy man made in His image? Was the evil in their hearts their because they were all half breeds or was it man evil unto himself and the nephilim were just good old men of renown that weren't destroyed in the flood and were spared to procreate showing up later in scripture....or....are they aliens as some would say? smile (Nathan thinks Richard is a nephilim with eyeliner!!!)

  7. Kristi,

There have been TWO new posts since you've last been here. You must've bookmarked the post only and not the entire blog. Try it again!

There are many theories to the nephilim. I tend to think the angels breeding with humans theory based on many ancient religions believing that the gods came down and mated with women. There has been some speculation that when it says "and Noah was perfect in his generations" means that he was pure human with no angelic mix.

And Richard just might be a nephilim with eyeliner!
